Last Week's Links 6-01-20

Before we get to the links, we have a special message this week:

Although the Governor’s “Safer at Home” executive order was extended to mid-June for places like gyms and theaters, WE ARE EXCITED THAT AS OF LAST FRIDAY, CHIROPRACTIC OFFICES (like most medical offices and dental offices) ARE ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL CARE!!

We are open (see hours below), and looking forward to resuming YOUR regular care—as soon as you are ready! The health and safety of our patients and team is our highest priority. We are continuing to schedule by appointment only to allow for the thorough cleaning of surfaces between visits. We are limiting the number of people in the office at any given time, and we are following other suggested guidelines for safety and prevention to ensure a clean, stress-free environment for everyone.

If this crisis has showed us anything it’s how important it is to have a high level of durable baseline health and resilience—now more than ever!

Without further ado, here are the links from our Rom Family Chiropractic Facebook page and all the good stuff we posted over the  last week!

We like to post things on a wide variety of health topics, but it can all be broken down into 5 broad categories:

1. Being well-adjusted
2. Eating well
3. Moving well
4. Thinking well
5. Sleeping well

Here are the links we posted from last week:

A Combo of Fasting Plus Vitamin C is Effective for Hard-to-Treat Cancers, Study Shows

“We have taken two treatments that are studied extensively as interventions to delay aging — a fasting-mimicking diet and vitamin C — and combined them as a powerful treatment for cancer.”

A Study on Infectivity of Asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 Carriers

In this study, a confirmed asymptomatic COVID-19 carrier exposed 455 people to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Following up on those who were exposed, ZERO tested positive for COVID-19.

While this is one case (from China, no less), it is good news!!!!!

This data comes from the CDC, and is specific to weekly deaths in Michigan for this year (data is up to the week ending May 2nd–the second bar from the right).

Each vertical bar represents weekly deaths, with the blue part of the bar representing COVID-19 deaths, while the green part of the bar represents non-COVID-19 deaths.

The yellow line represents the normal average, expected number of deaths for a given week–anything above the yellow line is considered an excessive death.

What is apparent here is that since Michigan’s Stay at Home Executive Order was put into effect, ALL-CAUSE MORTALITY IN MICHIGAN HAS SPIKED (green part of the bar) IN ADDITION TO COVID-19 DEATHS.

Clearly COVID-19 is a tragedy that is still unfolding, but it’s a tragedy that we MUST learn from.

While this graph does not provide answers, IT BEGS MANY QUESTIONS: primarily, was/is a prolonged, one-size-fits-all “stay at home” order the best course of action for Michigan? (If you look at Ohio, or Indiana, their data tells a different story!)

But also, why aren’t we hearing more about the increase in all-cause mortality?

What are we doing/can we do to help those lives at risk in the non-COVID category?

What does this teach us going forward?

Coronavirus ‘Disappearing’ So Fast Oxford Vaccine Has ‘Only 50% Chance of Working’

Should we be putting faith in someone else’s vaccine or effort into building our own health?

Biopharma Companies Are Spreading Misinformation — And Taking Advantage Of It

“Many biopharma companies (especially American ones) are benefiting from the Covid-19 pandemic.”

In the rush to be first, will science & safety be a priority?

And again: should we be putting faith in someone else’s vaccine or effort into building our own health?

Gymnastics-sports Activities: Health Benefits in Emergency Period CoViD-19. How to Organize a Quick Shot

“Regular physical activity grants significant health effects and lowers the risk of premature death for all causes, in particular cardiovascular ones in asymptomatic subjects…

…Institutions and media are generating the wrong message that active people must be looked at with disapproval. Instead, this habit should be encouraged, in order to protect citizens’ and community health, lightening the welfare load for society.”

Your Brain Has an Immune System, and You Can Boost It

You’re probably familiar with your immune system — your physiological immune system, that is. It’s the one that sends white blood cells to dispatch with pathogens. But what about your psychological immune system?

Hospitals Are Busier Than Ever — And Going Out of Business

“Hospitals preparing for the surge of Covid-19 patients opened up beds by decreasing or cancelling elective procedures and admissions. Those recovering from the first wave are still waiting for non-Covid-19 patients to come back. Expenses have gone up as hospitals redeployed staff, repurposed beds to create additional ICU capacity, paid overtime, and bought needed supplies at higher cost.”

The World Needs Covid-19 Vaccines. It May Also Be Overestimating Their Power

The Covid-19 vaccines in development may be more like those that protect against influenza.

“We all recognize that flu vaccine, in a year when it’s efficacious, you have what, 50% protection? And in a year when it’s poor you have 30% or less than that…” Marie-Paule Kieny, who is chairing a committee advising the French government on vaccines to prevent Covid-19.

This is why it makes sense to live a lifestyle that increases your baseline level of health–because it will be your best bet to protect you from ALL infections!!

As Doctors of Chiropractic, we are here to help!!

For the duration of today’s “Stay Home” Executive Order (until April 14th), our offices will be seeing patients BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. This will allow us to space out visits and allow for minimizing contact.

We are still here, still serving the community and helping people in this time of great stress and uncertainty. We are keeping the office extra clean & sanitized—wiping down all surfaces consistently as well as wiping down tables after every adjustment. We even have cleaning products in the rooms, if you feel more comfortable doing it yourself.
