Last Week's Links 8-10-20

Just to let you know: the NEW BALTIMORE office will be CLOSED THIS FRIDAY and the SHELBY office will be CLOSED THIS SATURDAY!!

Before we get to the links:

The health and safety of our patients and team is our highest priority. We are continuing to schedule by appointment only to allow for the thorough cleaning of surfaces between visits. We are limiting the number of people in the office at any given time, and we are following other suggested guidelines for safety and prevention to ensure a clean, stress-free environment for everyone.

If this crisis has showed us anything it’s how important it is to have a high level of durable baseline health and resilience—now more than ever!

Without further ado, here are the links from our Rom Family Chiropractic Facebook page and all the good stuff we posted over the  last week!

We like to post things on a wide variety of health topics, but it can all be broken down into 5 broad categories:

1. Being well-adjusted
2. Eating well
3. Moving well
4. Thinking well
5. Sleeping well

Here are the links we posted from last week:

A New Theory on Exercise’s Anti-Cancer Effect

“…the optimal amount of exercise for health purposes depends on your current level of fitness, since you don’t want to use up all of your energetic capacity in your workouts. More isn’t always better. To be fair, most coaches figured that out a long time ago, though athletes don’t always listen.”

This is why tracking your recovery is just as important as tracking your exercise!

Dance Your Way to Better Health?

office dancing

Ever take time to stop and throw yourself a dance party? Be the boss of dancing? The health benefits alone are worth it!

“The critical role of physical exercise in mediating and maintaining physical and mental fitness is well-acknowledged. Dance, in addition to physical activity, combines emotions, social interaction, sensory stimulation, motor coordination and music, thereby creating enriched environmental conditions for human individuals.”

Superior sensory, motor, and cognitive performance in elderly individuals with multi-year dancing activities.

COVID-19 Vaccine Messaging, Part 1Q

Interesting study being done now to see how they can market and motivate people to get a COVID-19 vaccine… Mind you this study is being done BEFORE a SAFE & EFFECTIVE vaccine has even been made & introduced.

“This study tests different messages about vaccinating against COVID-19 once the vaccine becomes available. Participants are randomized to 1 of 12 arms, with one control arm and one baseline arm. We will compare the reported willingness to get a COVID-19 vaccine at 3 and 6 months of it becoming available between the 10 intervention arms to the 2 control arms.”

Will it be most effective to guilt people into getting the vaccine?

How about trying to embarrass people into getting the vaccine?

…Maybe a message about how COVID-19 is limiting people’s personal freedoms, and vaccine would make all of that go away…

…or a message about how society ‘must work together and all get vaccinated’…

…or how about the message that ‘firefighters, doctors and front-line medical workers are brave. Those who choose not to get vaccinated against COVID 19 are not brave.’

Let There Be ‘Circadian’ Light

If you could only be outside 2 times each day, you’d be wise to make it sunrise and sunset.

“Researchers said the wavelengths at sunrise and sunset have the biggest impact to brain centers that regulate our circadian clock and our mood and alertness.”

Sunset is 8:47pm tonight.

America’s Obesity Epidemic Threatens Effectiveness of any COVID-19 Vaccine

Do you think coronavirus salvation hinges on a vaccine?

The promise of that vaccine is hampered by a vexing epidemic that long preceded COVID-19: obesity. More than 107 million American adults are obese.

Scientists know that vaccines engineered to protect the public from influenza, hepatitis B, tetanus and rabies can be less effective in obese adults than in the general population, leaving them more vulnerable to infection and illness. There is little reason to believe, obesity researchers say, that COVID-19 vaccines will be any different.

NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!!
